Type the Shh Emoji on iPhone and iPad
Open any text field, switch to the emoji keyboard, and use the search box to look for “shushing” or “shh.” Tap 🤫 to insert it. If the emoji keyboard is missing, open Settings, go to General, choose Keyboard, then Keyboards, and add Emoji. Menu names can vary slightly by iOS version.
You can also copy the character from this site and paste it into Messages, Notes, Mail, social apps, or a browser. The copy method is useful when search terms differ or the emoji is hard to locate in the keyboard categories.
Type it on Android
Most Android keyboards include an emoji key near the space bar or enter key. Tap it, search for “shushing face,” and select 🤫. If search is unavailable, browse the smileys and people category. Keyboard layouts differ by manufacturer and app, but copying and pasting remains a reliable fallback.
Use the Windows emoji keyboard shortcut
On supported Windows versions, click inside a text field and press Windows key + period. The emoji panel opens near the cursor. Search for “shushing” and select the face. The shortcut works in many browsers, office apps, chat tools, and text editors, although an older application may not display color emoji correctly.
Use the Mac character viewer
On macOS, press Control + Command + Space to open the character viewer. Search for “shushing face,” then double-click the emoji or select it to insert. Some Mac apps also show an Emoji & Symbols option in the Edit menu.
Type it on Chromebook and Linux
On a Chromebook, right-click in a text field and choose Emoji when that option is available, or use the on-screen keyboard. Linux support depends on the desktop environment and installed fonts. Many apps provide a character picker, while browser-based text fields can use copy and paste from this page.
Use Unicode input in technical workflows
The code point is U+1F92B. Direct hexadecimal input procedures differ by operating system and application, so the system emoji picker is usually easier. In HTML, use the visible character, 🤫, or 🤫. In a source file, save the document with UTF-8 encoding.
Create a text replacement shortcut
Some devices let you create a personal text replacement such as “;shh” that expands to 🤫. Choose a trigger that you will not type accidentally. This can be useful for community managers, teachers, or creators who insert the symbol often. Do not rely on a custom shortcut when using someone else’s device.
Troubleshooting
If the emoji appears as a box, update the operating system, browser, or app. If it inserts as black and white, the application may be using a monochrome symbol font. If a username field rejects it, the platform may not allow emoji. Copying a different version will not bypass a platform restriction because the underlying character is the same.
